Making a Homemade Vaporizer

Homemade Vaporizers

Vaporizers are instruments which are used to extract essence from natural herbs, tobacco etc. in the form of vapor by heating them in a healthy way. Vaporizers also act as a substitute for smoking through which the smokers extract tobacco without burning it so that they don't have to inhale the dangerous smoke and damage their lungs. There are so many types of vaporizers available in the market but Homemade vaporizers, as the very name suggests, are the vaporizers which can be made at home.
Making these vaporizers no special technology or tools are required and the input material is also found very easily in the home. Below are inscructions to make both a Lightbulb and Volcano Vaporizer.

In earlier days Homemade vaporizers were made using the old technology of combusting the plant or herbs in order to extract vapors from them. Homemade vaporizers can be made using so many things at home such as rubber tubes, old bottles, any pipe sort of item etc. but most commonly used home gadget for making a vaporizer is a bulb.

Vaporizers are possibly the best things to smoke out of, and is the most recommended methods of smoking for medical marijuana. Its much safer on your lungs, since you dont combus the molecules, causing the release of more carcinoges, gets rid of much tar, and doesnt make you choke. Also, it allows more THC to be inhaled, since instead of incenerating much of it, you just release it to the air.

How to Make a Lightbulb Vaporizer

Lately, there has been an increase in the trend of using regular electric bulbs for making a vaporizer. Any used or fused bulb can be used to make this vaporizer and as such this comes without any cost and is easily available.

The procedure for making this home made vaporizer is also very easy.

How they work:
The substance to be vaporized is placed inside the bulb which is then heated with the help of a lighter or a candle.

As and when the glass of the bulb gets heated and the heat is transmitted to the substance inside it. Upon getting enough heat it starts vaporizing and the user can inhale it with the help of the tube or pipe.

Since the glass of the bulb is very thin it does n`ot take much time before it is heated and vaporization starts. Likewise, Glass bottles or plastic bottles or kitchen rolls can also be used for making Homemade vaporizers.

First off, I would like to thank Goosie for the idea. His is the most common and simplistic.

Light bulb
Bottle Cap (size depends on size of light bulb...)
Tape (Electrical is best)

1) First, take the light bulb and your knife. Cut off the top of the metal part of the light bulb with the knife (or saw i guess... just be EXTREMLY CAREFUL! seriously... i dont want people getting cut badly because of my tutorial! take your time and do it slowly and carefully)

2) When you have that metal part cut off, then empty out the inside. Take out the metal stuff inside that makes the lightbulb make light... when your done the inside should be cleaned out. Using plyers helps since most of the peices are aluminum (i think...) and just bend really easly to fall out.
Also be sure to clean out the bulb completly with soap and water, and let fully dry. and be careful as bulbs are quite fragile!

3) Now find a bottle cap (mostly 2 liter coke-bottle caps work... they have on all the bulbs ive tried so far...) and screw it onto the light bulb (thats why you left some of the metal there ) to see if it fits. if it doesnt, look for a diffrent sized cap.

4) Now take your cap off and make 2 holes in it. 1 just big enough to fit a staw through, and the other slightly smaller. These are your inhalation holes, and your clearing hole. the smaller one is to cover with your finger to keep the smoke from excaping. the one with the straw is to inhale

5) Now to put in the straw to complete your vaporizer! put the straw into the larger hole

6) To use:
unscrew the top, and put your weed in (i break mine up, but thats just me...). Cover the smaller hole and put your mouth on the straw (dont inhale) and put the bulb over a tea-candle or use your lighter under the bulb. the bulb will fill with white smoke. after it does that, uncover the small hole and inhale through the straw. makes weed last longer and gets ya pretty damned high hope someone finds this useful on one of those days with nothing to smoke with... takes aprx 15 minutes to build.

A major drawback of this home made vaporizer is that if the bulb is not properly cleaned then there is a chance of inhaling small fragments of glass with the vapor.

Like wise the rubber/plastic tube vaporizers may also cause health hazards by deposition of smoke particles inside the tube. So it is advisable to change the rubber tube frequently.

How to Make a Volcano Vaporizer

Let's get started

The toughest part of making a homemade vaporizer is tracking down the parts. I have spent many hours in an attempt to compile a list of everything required and link to find the stuff but it is difficult to find everything. For now you can see the picture I had made of the homemade vaporizer and improvise the best you can.

Now your first step is to pick up the supplies I have listed. Here is where you might have to improvise. For example you don't have to have a glass jar that is exactly round like the one in the picture.

My hope is you will understand the general concept of the design and be able to put your own spin on it. This homemade vaporizer design requires very little assembly. Once you have gathered the materials I have listed than you are approximately 90% done.

The hardest thing to find in this equation is the glass jar or bowl. The first homemade vaporizer that I encountered had a huge fishbowl-like glass jar with a cork fitting on the top. It was absolutely perfect. There was a straight glass tube that belled in the middle fitted perfectly for the heat gun.

Luckily the owner of the vaporizer knew a glass blower but you might not be so fortunate. It would be nice to find a glass blower for this but this is not always possible so I have figured out an easier and cheaper alternative. You can use a vaporizer bowl attachment instead, and make sure you get the one with the long stem.

The Homemade Vaporizer Supplies

1 Heat Gun with free Bowl
A huge glass jar about 10" inches in diamater with a cork top
1 large clear plastic bag of your choice preferably something durable
1 90 degree pvc elbow and pvc on/off valve connector 1 glass tube with screen, or vaporizer bowl
Duct Tape

Ok...if you have all the stuff the rough part is over and you are ready to get this homemade vaporizer going. You need to put two holes in the cork lid about 2 inches apart. One will be for the glass tube or vaporizer bowl and the other for the PVC 90 degree elbow.

When making the homemade vaporizer keep in mind that it must be air tight, so only make your holes as big as the circumference of the bowl and fitting. If you happen to make the holes too big don't panic, because you can wrap some duct tape around the pieces to make them fit nice and snug.

Now we need to make sure the on/off valve fits tightly also, and is able to be connected and disconnected with ease for your vaporizer sessions. You can get creative and set this up however you would like as long as you know it needs to remain open while filling and open/close for operation.

The last step is to attach the bag with duct tape or a hose clamp and you are good to go.

Congratulations, it's time to test your homemade vaporizer

Let the Testing Begin!!!
