Everytime I see her face I feel these butterflies
In my stomach, wishing they could explore the open skies
When she's in my company they won't give up after a few tries
They continue to go in circles, looking for a way to fly free
Wishing they could watch our minds soaring so gracefully
In the sweet serenity of the stars overhead
Gliding through the heavens, no sense of pain or dread
Anger, anxiety, distress, or fear
Cloudless skies, the path of our ascent remains perfectly clear
Our journey is far from over,
We've yet to see all of the final frontier
Don't worry though, our destination does draw near
We'll arrive momentarily after a few more hits
These little winged creatures are still giving me fits
Begging to escape their current cell
To be free and dance where the stars dwell
To see her beauty with their own eyes
And to fly right alongside her and I
Into the endless abyss of our universe
Deeper and deeper we immerse
Our minds under Mary's spell
Her fire forces us along as we propel
Farther and farther into the great unknown
Closer and closer to the place where none before have flown
Mary sits in ashes, her work has been done
I fill the engines one last time as we begin our final run
Although the butterflies sense the change in velocity
They still fly patiently,
Knowing they will soon be free
Their award for serving their purpose so faithfully
We arrive at our destination, at our universe's very edge
Carefully we sit and hang our feet over the ledge
I catch sight of her eyes, and she finds mine
Realizing their fluttering has ceased I notice one of the butterflies
Crawling up a strand of her hair like a vine
Absolutely beautiful, of divine design
I brush away the butterfly as our lips combine
Their gentle flying always clouded my mind
And kept me from speaking most of my words
Now they are free to come and go with the rest of us little birds
I take her hand as we spread our wings
Ready for whatever this life brings
