One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest is a great film. It's the first movie I thought of when I started thinking of my top 5 favorite movies. I was exposed to the book and film in grade 10 or 11 english class. Most times you hear people comment, "The book was so much better than the film." but in this instance, I liked the movie much better. Jack Nicholson's performance as Randall Patrick McMurphy was the reason I became such a fan of Jack's acting. Incidentally, Chinatown is another amazing movie of his.

I went to the theater to see Pulp Fiction within 2 weeks of its release. My friend Jody and I travelled with Brent in his Honda Prelude to the Empire cinema in Dartmouth that rainy night. The sunroof in Brent's car leaked like crazy into the backseat of his car. And who isn't told this and proceeds to sit in a saturated, spongey mess? Well, I was pissed until the movie started...thanks to Pulp Fiction, I forgot all about my soggy, damp ass.

Natural Born Killers always comes to mind. I must have watched that movie 30 times or more. The most memorable time I remember watching that movie was with my ex-wife (who was only my 3 month old girlfriend at the time) in her parent's basement rec room. We ended up getting buck naked in the darkened room only lit by gunfire on the tv flickering our silhouttes on the walls behind us.
After we did the deed and were laying naked on the chesterfield together, her 15 year old brother walks in on us and sits down in the chair next to the couch to watch the rest of the movie and chat it up with us.
I thought it was strange considering he had to have known we were naked due to a rather large pile of clothing on the floor and the fact that we had the blanket up to our necks the whole time. I think he was just being a perverted bastard and wanted to see my ass or some shit.

My 4th choice would have to be the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm kind of glad that I didn't get to see this movie until I was in my mid-teens. I think it could have permanently warped my brain if I had seen it as a child. Sure, the movie is old and campy, and done on a very low budget but there are some scenes that still grate on me today.

And even the beginning with the camera flashbulb lighting up the decomposed corpses and making that whining squeal sound effect.
Just plain scary.

Finally, we end with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Johnny Depp is amazing as Hunter Thompson as Raoul Duke as...whomever. I still want to get my hands on some Ether because of this movie. Although I asked my father about it and he said that Ether makes you really sick to your stomach sometimes. High or sober, this movie is funny and scary all rolled into a loony rollercoaster ride.

A Clockwork Orange - Only because it led me to what is my favorite book.

Midnight Cowboy - Shows how gritty and shitty everything is. Update: Got really stoned and watched the film, realized how it's like the Pulp Fiction of 1969 times ten. My new favorite part is where John Voight takes a seat across a woman and a child at a diner hoping to score some crackers, thinking it was like the normal mother-child relationship he saw in Texas on his way to New York, only to discover that the relationship is far more sinister when the child erotically touches the woman with a plastic mouse. My personal belief is that the child is the son of a mobster, and that his father hired a prostitute to "make his son a man", in essence. Proof that the woman was a prostitute is shown later in the film, when the woman is seen on the streets smoking a cigarette by herself and having paranoid like awareness of her surroundings.

Raging Bull - For its awesome domestic violence scene and a character I can relate to.

Taxi Driver - For being the most darkly beautiful film I have ever watched.

Empty Slot - For whatever great film I have yet to see.
