most drugs in the story are both real and common to HSt, the author and star of the story(though acosta is a real wild cat, of a different variety to HST).
I was watching one of many interviews with HST when he told this story about the famous adrenacol drug..you know the drops that dr gonzo gives to him upon his return to vegas...yeh, well he puts this adrenacol on his tongue, well he drinks too much really....anyway Hunter was telling this story about how some fan had said to him
'yeh man, i use that adrenacol shit too, its superb'..the joke to hunter was that he had completely made up 'adrenacol' just for the story..

Apart from that part of the story, most of it is a painful and vivid reccolection of hunter's trip to vegas with oscar acosta (a fellow writer and close buddy of hunters who went missing in the 70s thought to have been killed in a drug deal gone wrong.......who knows??maybe the old buffalo is still roaming the wild lands??????)

it was amyls no doubt about it in the movie when raoul duke is explaining whats in the trunk he the last thing he mentions is the amyls which is difficult to hear but if u read the book it becomes more clear that its amyls

The drug they're using is poppers, or amyl nitrates. They cause euphoria and muscle relaxation, noteably the sphincter making it popular within the gay community. It used to be (and maybe still is) prescribed for heart conditions. It's an inhalent, you snuff it up your nose as seen in fear and loathing.

and also when hes taken the adrenochrome the fat guy gives him cocain on a knife and he does it a few times, when hes on the bed, so they must have got more :p or is it something else?

he says thories referring to thorazine(chlorpromazine) an anti-psychotic that used to be given for drug psychosis from takin lsd or similar drugs and bring em sane. now Haloperidol has taken the place to be used

on wikipedia if you go under drug movies then it tells you the drugs they used in that movie, like how in requiem for a dream I thought the people were snorting coke, but it was heroin.
