The Book of Eli
Yet another post apocolyptic world movie. This one stars Denzel Washington as Eli, a guy chosen by God to deliver something special. Also stars Gary Oldman as a roughneck leader of a small town. Mila Kunis (from That 70's Show) plays an awesome role as a friend of Eli. My god, she's gorgeous!
The story of the movie was pretty good. The scenery was typical: destroyed cars, very few people remaining on Earth, barren wastelands. The only difference is the brightness of the skies that forces everyone to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes. The clouds all had this nifty green tinge to them.
The fight scenes with Eli were quite spectacular! He's a badass with a badass knife! The ending was very good. I'd rate this movie 7.5/10. Worth watching once or twice...especially to look at Mila's beautiful eyes and lips.

Re: The Book of Eli
All I can say about this movie is :
Bullshit Christian crap theme.
Also, the fact that he is blind is so lame, the entire movie he looks into people's eyes, aims guns and shoots people with it, decapitates enemies with his machete and then at the end it turns out his bible is in braille and he is blind.
--> Fuck that, that was a very cheap twist.
The acting itself wasn't bad, the world reminded me of Mad Max, a lot, but the underlying Christian crap in it disgusted me.
What I did like was that they portrayed the Bible as a book of great danger, the antagonist clearly wanted to use the Bible to rule the world while Eli just wanted to 'spread the word' .
I was rooting for the evil guy at first, because I thought he wanted to burn the book and thus save the world from another bout of religious fanatics, then it turned out he wanted to use it to enslave the people, still not a very positive look on the bible/religion.
5/10 ,just because Denzel played it well, jackie was in there (what total bullshit she turned into this badass biblechick at the very end, while being a scared weakling for most of the movie), lots of points lost because of the dumb subtheme, dumb twist at the end (Eli blind, pffuh, I felt insulted, the fucker shoots a CAT from thirty yards with an improvised bow and arrow, shoots people with pistols and shotguns, clearly aiming at them, masters a machete but is blind?? AHAHAHA).

Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

flow, come on, man you cant give it a low score just because you hate religion. it hinted he was gifted by something aswell as commanded to find safety for that bible like he said.
they were treating religion the same way that World of Warcraft does... ya know granting people powers and shit...

What can I say, I did not like the movie, mainly because of it's religious premises, but also because it didn't make any sense at all.

Holy shit, you're almost worse than the typical christian trying to convert you to their religion, but in atheist form. No difference in the message, just a different belief

Take out all the religious whining and all that is left is three average fighting scenes and a heap of characters that don't fit at all

If you want to pull a swipefile report on Book of Eli, I recommend comparing it to the video game Fallout 3. The imagery is identical. Even the story and premise decriptions For the third time in four months, after "2012" and "The Road," the end of the world as we now know it is up on the bigscreen, in "The Book of Eli." An odyssey of a mysterious wanderer who has spent 30 years making his way across desolate post-apocalyptic landscapes in possession of the world's only remaining Bible, the Hughes Brothers' first feature in nine years reps a weirdly intriguing mix of "Mad Max.

Re: The Book of Eli
well I may have been lit when i watched this movie in theatres but if my memory serves me correctly, im pretty sure that the bible is sort of an excuse for the entire story to even happen. there honestly wasnt much mention of the bible from what i remember, atleast not as you describe.WeedGuru_Flow wrote:Take out all the religious whining and all that is left is three average fighting scenes and a heap of characters that don't fit at all

Re: The Book of Eli
Denzel, to me, is one of those actors who generally shows promise when playing something close to his own character, or who he has always wanted to be, namely...a righteous man. In perhaps his finest role, in American gangster, he still follows this mould, as despite his fierce leadership, he remains throughout, for my money, A Good Man. I am saying that he is more believably A Good Man, A Righteous Man, than anything else, which is why, he is more often than not cast in such roles. As for Book of Eli...the plot has been already outlined before this post, so I will not bother to repeat what is already known. I will however, thread a line or two together about WHY i was irritated at wasting my time on Eli.
The fighting scenes are too incredulous to be acceptable. There is a large dose of Mad Max involved in the visuals and storyline...but...mad max pisses all over this hotchpotch relgious bullshit. without a doubt, the only highlight, the ONLY value in this film is Oldman's performance...Like Denzel needs to play the righteous, Oldman finds himself, in the Evil...As I approached the climax, I was becoming so fucking hopeful that This special book, which was going to save and reinvigorate humanity, was to be something wonderful, but then, as the scenes kept coming, i was forced to accept, that the writers had ruined the whole story by using the bible as the crux of the whole matter. Annoying. Irritating. Bullshit.
Animal Rating 2/10.
