The Hobbit

This is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings saga. it explains how bilbo baggins got the ring from gollem during his own adventure. this was the first book that i ever remember reading and to this day its still one of my favorites. i thought i was better than the whole Lord of the Rings saga and i read it long before the movies ever came out.

Gives the story of how a simple hobbit can adjust and overcome some serious obstacles and come through for all his friends. throughout the become he experiences a radical change and while adventuring through a world completely forgein to him.

i read it in 4th grade but i still remember what a good read it is. if i remember correctly my favorite part of the book was when bilbo meets tom bombadill, very upbeat part of the story.

the last lord of the rings kinda book i read was 'return of the king' which was a wicked read. i do recall reading the series of books hobbit/fellowship/lordo f the ruings when i was younger. They are amazing stories, with a world so inticately thought out as to make it seem so believable....

I guess may i can add on this thread that 'return of the king' is a wicked book to read. it compels you to keep reading, keep turning the pages to see how the plot develops...good work by J Tolkien...

i sure return of the king, is the last of the book..or is it!

I don't think we get to meet Tom Bombadil in The Hobbit. We don't see him until the Fellowship of the Ring when Frodo and his companions venture through the forest. The Hobbit is written in a more simplistic way than LOTR.

Not to sound like an ass or anything, but I am 100% positive it was Frodo and his companions.

If you have read the books remember that Frodo and his crew went to his new house but the prescense of the "Black Riders" made them leave the next day. In order to avoid being seen they decided it was best to go through the forrest. The forrest of course led them on a path towards Bombadils house. At one point an Old Willow (I think it was a willow) almost killed either Merry or Pippin and Tom used the tree's song to save the young hobbit.

Bilbo didn't meet Tom in the Hobbit.
