Untitled Eternity

Post by (weedguru)scarf »

A short story i wrote about six years ago
not long after the first time i smoked... hence the subject.

His heart running through New York rush hour. His mind a scale weighing choice. His body, simply a host for pleasure and pain. The world around him was dark, a street lamp, near by, illuminating the world in which they stood. Four friends, two virgins, the night old yet still young with the anticipation of what was to come. A life away, but close enough to reach, the social gathering of youth continued, naive to the actions of these four friends. United by a single cause, to encounter a feeling unknown to them. Linked together in the moral dilemma facing them. Joined through the risk of their actions, and the consequences of being caught.

He had a choice, he always did. And usually reliable in these situations, he was as lost as a small child in a department store. Yes or no, right or wrong, but what was right and what was wrong? The decision not being pushed, but having to be made soon. The delay increased the risk. Himself a virgin, his best friend likewise, their two friends, gods and villains at the same time. The time was evaporating. The choice had been made. His stomach in a field of confusion, anticipation, fear and excitement. His face cold and expressionless. LET’S DO THIS. The beginning of the end? Or the beginning of a time unparalleled by any now, or ever again. The first snake, the second snake. The third came for him. Thick and menacing. It sunk its teeth into him. A vampire drawing him closer. He held his breath, sucked more air in, trying to fight it off, but trying to let it win. Eyes glared from the darkness, friendly in their menacing forms. It let go of him, and he exhaled the air that held his future in it. It swirled; a melody of music playing from a charmer… slowly taken from him. He tilted his head backwards. The sky, a crowd waving their lighters slowly in front of him. The snake bit again, its fangs piercing his throat. He had to cough. His friends smiled, but did so warmly and supportively. They were helping not hurting. He turned to face the blackness of the walk they faced. The snake, now a vampire, punctured his mind, lungs and heart again. The final affliction welcomed and greeted with arms wide open.

Four bodies stammered back from where they had ventured. He was able to walk, and as he continued further, he gained bounce, energy. He looked at the timepiece. Remembered. A young one like his friend, but that was insignificant as they laughed. The feeling was not a feeling to him, but more a series of connected moments. Every thought was started, but then cut off, by the beginning of another. They became faster and faster.

He sat on the concrete. Concrete like he had never seen, fun and funky. He hadn’t thought concrete could be either, but in this moment it was both and much more. The two young ones sat and stared. Words swam between them, but usually drowned before being remembered or commented on. Intellect had become a thing of the past. The rest of the night had become love, friendship, experience and pleasure. A girl, a princess, came to him, and he jumped. The words spoken, not remembered, not thought about, yet felt natural. The princess returned to her castle, happy, he was glad. Nothing had ravaged the night yet. The timepiece had moved twice. His mind had moved a million times. The night was his eternity.

They sat. Two young ones. Two gods. One observer. The observer with special significance to him. The observer would be there for eternity as well. The observer, a witch in a princess’s mask. But for eternity a princess beyond measure. Conversation moved quickly, he felt as though he registered every third or fourth sentence, but then forgot it again with the next. He sat at a workstation, a quill and ink awaited and beckoned him. His hand took the opportunity before his mind had a chance to react. The world closed around him, he stenciled carefully his thoughts. Etching memories. The room filled with laughter and social intimacy. His mind continued to reach for it. It stemmed to the intimacy and secrets shared.

The four pilgrims parted. He left alone with the observer. The princess. The unknown witch. They sat on the floor facing. In-between them a bridge of something that he couldn’t put his mind to. The observers shield lowered. His shield was never up. Eternity was about honesty. Their hands touched. His mind fought the acid that was dripping on him. The touch, unlike anything he had experience before, burned, but he longed for more. Unsure why he felt the way he did, and unsure what it was he felt. His body moved, his mind caught up. The observer became the world, the slayer and the life source. His mind crumbled, as his body excelled. He drifted away with the observer, happy and longing for it to never end.

The observer and the young one returned to the world. The party had dissipated. The only ones left were staying for eternity.
