I watched a beautiful movie called 'skin' last night. It was a biographical film based on a true story, which is not my usual cup of tea by a long shot, but I actually got really into it, I've haven't felt moved by a film emotionally like that since I first watched Grave of the Fireflies about 4-5 years ago. The film is set in Africa during the Apartheid era, and follows the life of Sandra Laing, a black woman who was born unto two white afrikaans, and the struggles that stem from her racial uncertainty. I wont go into it anymore but if you want to read up more for yourself here's the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin_(2009_film) It really is a beautiful but very sad story, and it is not ruined by the inclusion of any huge hollywood blockbuster names. It is a pretty serious watch but I highly recommend it as worthy of planting your eyes on at some point.

Well that's pretty interesting... I took a class on South Africa last semester and we spent a few classes on Sandra Laing, so I actually know quite a bit about her story. Her account was actually one of the most interesting parts of the class... Who would have ever thought about the possibility of such a situation arising? A colored girl born to white parents in South Africa during apartheid... it simply boggles the mind.

I haven't seen the movie but I will definitely keep my eye out for it now... thanks.

its not always stupidity, it can also be ignorance, uncaring, sociopathy, or just fitting in.
