1. Counter-Strike - PC (Online)
The most popular online multiplayer game of all time. This is quite an achievement, and Counter-Strike is worthy of it. Based on the game half-life, CS aims to put a wholly realistic slant on the game play. You must select from either the terrorist or counter-terrorist teams, and it is here that you first see the quality, the characters look absolutely stunning - with the SAS man definitely my favourite. Each beautifully crafted level has a different objective that needs achieving, maybe the terrorists will have to plant a bomb or take out a VIP, or the counter-terrorists may have to rescue some hostages.
When the game is underway, the players must work in tandem with their teammates for any chance of survival - running round a corner into a pack of enemies on your own will almost certainly mean a swift death.
As you would be playing this online against other people from around the world, being stoned at the time makes for some serious fun. The ambience of the game draws you in - straining your ears for sounds of someone's approaching footsteps, then when the two teams meet in a passageway - the whole game erupts in a furious fighting frenzy.
An unbelievable game - totally deserving of its number one crown.
2.Fifa 99/2000/2001/2002- All consoles.
Football is a wicked game loved by many and this is the best out of the plethora of football games available. The speed of the game can be changed as can many other game play options and parameters. Whole weekends have been lost playing this game. With weed by your side, anything seems achievable even winning the world cup with England on World Class level.
All of the fifa series contain many skills from nutmegs to flick ups, and all have an easy to pick up control system. The fluid movement of the players coupled with the usually good commentary (except I am anything but keen on Andy Gray’s annoying comments, but Motson more than makes up for him!) make this game an ultimate two-player game. Build your teams via the transfer system and the team management option, and the have a league of you and a friend with the injuries option active; things can get quite heated!
Easy to pick up and always enjoyable.
3. The Tekken series- Many consoles.
The ultimate 3d fight-fest remains timeless as more and more fighting games flood the market. With many characters each able to deliver mind-blowing combinations and special moves, it is a game of huge appeal to stoners. Many a bout has been wasted waiting to produce a winning power punch from paul or a 360 spin throw from King.
A game definitely best to play with your mates, and easy to get absorbed into if you’re winning! All the moves can be learned in the training mode and there are increased solo adventures as the tekken series progress. Easy to pick up kick and punches is an incentive to learn the more vicious attacks, then invite your friends over and destroy them.
Tekken 3 is my preferred version of this game on the Playstation. Great fun.
4. The Worms series - All platforms
I first played this game on an amiga 8 years ago and I loved it. You take control of a worm army which you can name and arm. You can have up to four or five teams playing on some of the worms editions, all battling it out against each other with crazy weapons like banana bombs, cluster bombs, homing pigeons, sheep, baseball bats, mortars and of course the holy hand grenade. All the worms are positioned somewhat randomly on a generated landscape of which you can set the parameters. Each worm takes a turn until all worms are dead and only one team is left standing.
The great thing about this game is that you can still skin up as you play and watch or plan the often-gruesome demise of the worms on screen. You are not limited by just moving left and right and firing weapons, you are aided by limited use of jetpack, ninja rope, bungee, blowtorch and more. Stats are recorded and there are awards after each bout for the best worm and most picked on worm etc.
Available on many systems, this game is perfect for two or more players and always produces some laughs and often-crazy suicide missions.
5. Muppet Racemania - Playstation
I am a game-playing veteran of many years. I stumbled across this diamond of game on the back streets in Kuta, Bali. It was pointed out by my X-girlfriend, and this act was perhaps the best thing the girl ever did in her life. Unknown to many, this game is a sure rival to the Mario kart games on the various Nintendo consoles.
You take control of one of a large number of the favourite Muppets n from Gonzo to Miss Piggy and of course the star of the show in my opinion Animal. The fiery tempered animal is a player only for experienced gamers due to his bouts of insanity that are commonplace in the game. The aim of the game is to collect stars and fruit and attack the other muppets and to win the races. The weapons range from loitering teddy bombs (although many tell me these are penguins, I have always thought of them as teddies) to bombs and homing chickens. The more fruit you collect the more boost you can use, else save your fruit until you get a special weapon! Each character has a different special weapon that will stop and inhibit the other Muppets in some way or you can opt for a lightning burst round the course. The courses are amazing and there is scope for the one player game to win more cars, characters and courses. There are battle races and battle courses where it is all out war between the Muppets, and also a number of stunt courses to try your hand at. This game is the most addictive and fun game I have ever played in my life.
It’s wicked in every way.
6. Super Mario Kart- Nintendo 64
By the time we got round to the 64 version of this game, it was already established as one of the most popular games of all times. The incarnation on the powerful Nintendo is my favourite but all versions have been immensely popular. You take control of one of many characters and have to race around fighting and driving to win the races. Similar to muppet-racing in the game-play stakes. Some great fun will be had whilst playing this game.
7. Golden Eye- Nintendo 64
This sees you take control of Bond himself or a multitude of characters from the many bond films. The targeting system and use of weapons is superb as you run around trying get more powerful guns and to elude capture or go on the offensive.
Great fun with two players or more. The graphics are superb and the one-player missions are also great fun. Equally addictive as a one player game, with a multitude of intriguing missions taken directly from the film of the same name.
I am planning to buy a Nintendo 64 again just so that I have this game; it’s that addictive.
