Please, elaborate.Ikku wrote:Sorry that I missed this thread when it happened.
Time travel is possible in only one direction, and that is the direction that is moves in constantly. It is theoretically possible to change the rate at which time progresses for a certain individual, yeah it all goes back to relativity.
Cheers.

by worm holes im assuming you mean black holes, and is it actually proven that they can be used for time travel?weedguru ;) wrote:it is possable in space there are worm holes all over the universe, if one can be found then you can time travel, look into steven hawkings theroys.
I thought that was just speculation still...

Astronauts have been timetraveling for quite a while now.
The ISS for example is orbited around our planet, now cause the centrifugal pull is bigger around the planet they travel way faster than we do, hence when they come back to earth they are in fact a couple of minutes 'younger' than us (minutes if they stay in space for like a year or something)
I quote:
"I already know a time traveler. My friend, astronaut Story Musgrave, who helped repair the Hubble Space Telescope, spent 53.4 days in orbit. He is thus more than a millisecond younger than he would have been if he had stayed home. The effect is small, because he traveled very slowly relative to the speed of light, but it's real."

Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

Anywho.....bordem is killing me...so heres my perception of time travel.
According to Einstein's theory on the "speed of light", light travels no distance in no amount of time.
What he found was that light is a universal constant, basically, if your standing still, light appears to travel past you at this speed -i think 186,000 mps-, but if your moving 99% the speed of light, it still appears to be moving past you at the same speed...why is this? because light has no speed, it simply is or isn't...if you have a hallway 1million miles long, and you turn on a light on the other side, it will reach every part of that hallway at the same time.
How does this apply to time travel? well, most time travel theories are based on the fact that if you can break the speed of light (which doesn't exist) that the flux in the atomospheric universe would be so great you could alter time itself. So you see now the problem were having.
On to a related issue...everything is made of atoms, and every atom has a specific path it follows that cannot be disrupted, why is this you might wonder silently to yourself as you pack a bowl. A german scientest; who will remain nameless at the point; from the 1800s once found that if you try to alter the path of an atom, your really just letting it go in its directed path. This comes from the theory that everything that happens in the universe is a result of "the big bang". WHAT!?!?! yes folks, we're still experiencing the big bang. so basically, everything that happens is a result of the big bang...this random clusterfuck explosion of chemicals...and we live on that.
So...back to the point...time travel. If we could see into the future, that would have to prove the theory on the big bang continuum, would it not? and heres where the research stops. We simply cannot go faster than something with no speed. BUT...LIGHT DOES SO HAVE A SPEED!!! Wrong there kiddo, look it up. What is my point in all this? I don't have one...just desplaying these observations for you stoners to think about during your next -lay down and toke- session.
And one other thing...if you could flux the movement of atoms (which is proven you cannot) wouldn't that mean you've done something so great you could change everything we know have known and will know to something else? nothing but floating matter perhaps? earth is about 1/48trillionth of the universe as we know it, stop trying to be miracle workers and be the ants that you are. =)

sigh...linkkid wrote:What do you think a black hole is? It's a rip in space which takes you back into time if you were to go into it, but they haven't figured out how to do it without being crushed to a million pieces
no one truely knows what a "black hole" is, just a bunch of theories, its one of those things humans will probably never figure out.
as far as it bringing you back in time, i don't doubt it would, i don't doubt it wouldn't, but for now, time travel in the factual definition is impossible as far as i know...

What is time?
"When we think of time we tend to think of the ways in which we measure the passing of time, such as a clock or watch, or perhaps a measured interval of time such as an hour or minute, but not of time itself. So what is time? Exactly what is it that we are measuring?"
Before you can try to understand time travel you need to know what your meant to be travelling through.
Check out http://www.thekeyboard.org.uk/What%20is%20Time.htm for more information on time.
On another note, I'm not sure if i can remember correctly but i'm sure a scientist has made an atom travel back in time. i think it is possible to time travel, BUT we dont have enough technogly and information to send humans back/forward in time yet as what we do know is only on a small scale (an atom or two) and is not widely known.

I took an I.Q test the other day and the results were negative!

"What The Bleep Do We Know" is actually fascinating, although there's been some controversy around one of the people interviewed in it ("Ramtha"). But the most important concepts in that movie are all based on real quantum physics (i.e. entanglement, double-slit experiment and the observer etc) and it's crazy and inspiring to watch when you're blazed! It got me thinking a lot about reality and existence for a few months now so it's been valuable for me.actually, your own brain is somewhat of a quantum computer.
my guitar teacher had this theory that fairly soon (about 50 years), due to the fact that this quantum technology is advancing at a very fast rate, eventually your brain would be "data" that you can "download" and "re-program." Now I've seen What the Bleep Do We Know? and I still didn't believe this. I asked my biology teacher, however, and she replied "It's closer than you think.. I just hope I'm not around when it happens."

heres a link to what the bleep do we know?http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006U ... ance&n=130
i thought it wasnt really real until i saw at the end almost everyone who was interviewed: Name of Person...Professor of Quantum Technology at Yale, written 500 articles, 10 books on Quantum Physics, etc.
sent a chill up my spine
Here's the torrent of the movie if anyone's interested: http://www.torrentz.com/search?q=what+the+bleep (the first is the original, "down the rabbit hole" is the new extended version).
