yes sir, that's what I do...roll a roach tight and heat with a lighter, it will stay in that shape, then I just unroll it and roll it once again to a desired density (cuz the previous state of it is too tight and hard to toke). But the bought roaches or the ones you get with combo paper boxes are the best. But I use any decent thin cardboard...roaches from cigarette boxes, party flyers, yellow pages covers...use your imagination...

and if you have no thin cardboard available you can always use the tip of the cigarette as a roach...good for smoking hash...
