Red Hot Chili Peppers sued MetallicA (dunno if they won or not) over a song on the Garage Inc CD that "sounded similar" to their own song... the song MetallicA had was Breadfan, and 1. it don't sound anything like the Chilis song they claimed sounded like it and 2. Breadfan wasn't even a MetallicA song, all the songs on that CD are covers, so yeah fuck that... and one of the riffs at the end of a Chilis song is directly ripped off from a Black Sabbath song, Sweet Leaf... heheh, what a coincidence, SWEET LEAF

HELL NO! So, how am i supposed to transer files, not music, but lets sa..large web server files bigger then a disk, but can fit on a CD? Or, if i want to reburn a copy of a CD i own because i wore it out? or, i deside to make my own mix of songs from CD's i own. But, i do agree with your last statement. =]
I agree that downloading should b totally legal. some of us just don't have the kinda money needed to buy all these cds and most of the time...the artists really don't need it. $20 to them isn't worth nearly as much as it's worth to many of us.
So, if artists really want ppl to buy their cds...they should put special features on them that u can't get anywhere else...so the hardcore fans will still buy em...and the ppl who don't have much money or don't care enough about the features can download em. So many more ppl could enjoy the music(and not just at their comps like they would if burners were taken away) and the artists would still be making that money. Also, with more ppl listening to the music...there's gonna b more ppl wanting to go to the concerts. I think it works. Problem solved.

search for "lars ulrich vs. Chuck D" and it should come up with a pro's and con's thing they did. obviously lars ulrich of metallica was the con's and chuck D of puiblic enemy was doing the pro's. if you cant find the video theres a transcript.

I don't think what they are doing is TOTALLY unjustified, at the end of the day people are stealing from them but I do think the RIAA just shutting down servers left right and centre is so short sighted. There has never been such a wide selection of music available so its hard to hear about alot of it, the internet and file sharing really helps the smaller labels/artists to get publicity but then I spose the RIAA doesn't really care about them and if it were up to them we'd all be listening to pop music to save them the job of signing anyone else.
Personally I don't care what they do, I don't use MP3's simply because they sound bloody awful so I don't want to listen to them, I only buy music.

.mp3's are some of the best quality music files u can get, 128 bit is the best and it all depends on how is copyed from the CD, some are better then CD quailty, its just, u need ta find em. =[

lol none of them are better than CD quality. 128 is about half cd quality and even at 312 they still use perceptual encoding and therefore sound awful. Plus you can never get a true hifi sound from a PC.

256 bit ripping sounds basically the same as the cd, and my cousin has a sound system that can be heard all through the house on 1/4 volume and you'd swear the band was in the next room playing, it's not just the file quality but the system you put it through
