I think because :
- It'd require a complete change on the view on drugs. If marijuana is considered 'safe', then cocaine might also be! After all, the government said both are dangerous, however now changed their opinions. I know it isn't true, but some people might think that.
- New politicians wouldn't want to legalize weed, as its too much change, and would probably lose more votes than gain them.
- Perhaps the police need 'easy' weed busts sothat they can fill their quotas
- Once it would be legalized, it'd be hard to go back.
- Issues with growing. Anyone can grow a weed plant (basically), whereas not many people can make their own liquor (although I did it once, made some fruit flavoured liquor, banana tasted the best) or grow tobacco. If the prices are too high/quality too low, people'd just continue buying from dealers, or grow their own, leaving no profit for the government.

I hope that america will legalize it sometime soon.. the rest of the world would probably follow their example. I'd love to buy a pack of 19 prerolled weed cigarettes
Weed should just get thesame laws as alcohol. Don't smoke in public, don't cause problems to others, and don't smoke and drive (imo you should always drive sober).

Marijuana is illegal because humans are, by nature, creatures of habit, and creatures of group conformity. Most people in the world are afraid to go against the grain of what is considered acceptable by the general population, and so they will blindly follow any rules given to them. Marijuana has been considered wrong or illegal by society for long enough that it simply registers in peoples' minds as a criminal substance. People are afraid to fight for things they consider beautiful (most people that is) so cannabis remains illegal. I personally do everything possible in my area to promote cannabis awareness but one person can only do so much.

The government do not have control of the substance. They cannot make money from it...its too late. So its better for them if people purchase alcohol, which whilst causing equal or greater problems to society, is controlled and taxed, so its fine and dandy. Think of the government as a company, and a company who can see a rival product which they simply cannot compete with, using their own products. As this company has control of the media, to a degree, who are their paymasters, it is logical for them to denounce marijuana in any way they can, to the point of linking it to terrorism, in order to inspire anger in the ignorant masses who buy into the mock patriotism...with savage pride.

I mean you guys basically have it all wrapped up... heres what makes me mad about it... since it is illegal people look at pot smokers as BAD people. That makes me mad most of all... like parents, my boyfriends parents are fucking out of their minds... His dad has drank himself retarded and is on my BF as about pot... and when my BFs brother got a house, he was stumblin around like an idiot with his new born baby near him... AND they drive.. so heres my come back... how are they going to bitch and moan about pot when there alcohol habit is down right disgusting... Partially true, it also happens some American cunt who came up with a synthetic fiber, far less strong and durable than hemp,thought it would be good for his business if hemp were illegal,and because he had the money it happened.
