Concerned about my reaction to Weed

Post by NotVeryCool »

First off, let me do a quick recap of my Weed history:
I smoked a few times in High School, some unknown type in 2008 a few times, once in 2009, and once last night. It's not much experience, but the High School highs were normal, tons of laughs, lots of munchies. The ones in 2009 were when the trouble began. I started staring at walls for a long time and sometimes got a bit paranoid. In 2010, the reason I only smoked once was because the people I smoked with were concerned I didn't react very well to Weed. I became catatonic and stared out in space. So far, the three main people I've smoked with since after High School have all asked if I needed to go to the hospital.

Last night was an interesting high, it had been a while and I was definitely down. I smoked about 4-5 puffs of a blunt (2-3 puffs were small) and I began to see everything differently. If you're familiar with the paintings people do on the streets that look 3D but aren't, it sort of felt like that. Everything was 2D but when anyone would move, their bodies stuck out as if the painting was moving.
When we moved inside, the different perceptions were confusing. The easiest way to explain it is that it'd switch from the television being extremely realistic, like I was living in it, to the entire room being a block of 3D objects and the television was in the center standing alone. The last being the most disturbing, every time I looked to the side of the room, it looked like a scene from Dogville, it got me rather paranoid so I only looked a few times.

Every time I was asked if I was okay, I thought I responded, but then they'd ask again and I realized I hadn't. It was basically three phases of severity. Phase 3 being the most stoned, phase 2 was me thinking I was responsive, and phase 1 was me realizing I was responsive enough to answer and that I hadn't already.

Afterward, and this happened in 2009 as well, my body begins to shake. It was as if it was extremely cold (which is was when we were outside) but my body didn't stop shaking until later.

I know, another dumb user trying to depict their high (and poorly) and seeking advice. I know Weed isn't harmful, I enjoy doing it, but I'm kind of disappointed that my highs are so anti-social. I wish I could get a high where I eat and talk, or at least not space out entirely. I want to be able to be a social smoker, not someone who causes everyone else to worry about whether or not we need to make a trip to the hospital.

Lastly, on my highs, I'm often times very paranoid about some things, just though I'd throw that out there.

Any ideas or thoughts on this subject is much appreciated.

On a side note, do most of you use grinders? I'm just wondering if I'd need to get one to roll a joint, I've always seen people break it up with their fingers. Didn't want to ask this question elsewhere, I think I have your attention by now, so what's anther 10 seconds?

Thanks for the time and here's a very appropriate emote to my situation: :violin:

Um for one..welcome to the boards man ^.^

The only thing that comes to mind is that the weed you smoke might be laced...or maybe you are allergic to weed? I donno if that's possible or not.

On a not so serious note, will you send me what you were smoking? jkjk

I don't use grinders. The weed I smoke is in bud form, no seeds, sticky stuff, so there's no need to break it up really. I just peel a piece off.

I'm sure someone will google what could possibly be wrong with you and you'll get a better answer

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I don't believe the weed was laced, it's very possible the weed in 2008 might've been, but the others I'm sure weren't.

I'm pretty certain you get better quality than I do, although this stuff from last night was pretty solid.

Thanks for the information on grinders, as you can tell, I'm not overly experienced, but luckily I'm willing to do some research so I know what to expect and what to do.

Hope someone does Google it for me, I have tried but I don't think it's information that's easily obtainable as Google matches words and anything with the word "high" or "weed" brings in numerous results. I'm hoping for anyone with first-hand knowledge or possible theories.

At least now I know it's not very common.

This has happened to me a few times. I can't explain why it happens exactly. I'd say it's a combination of getting a cold chill mixed with the good goosebumpy feelings of being high, and adding a dash of nervous paranoia.

You don't need a grinder to bust up your weed for joint or blunt rolling. A good method is to get a small, empty vessel of some sorts and a small pair of scissors. Drop your smaller, finger busted weed into, say, a shotglass or a pill bottle, and use your scissors to chop it up.

Your problem sounds like you are getting really high but your friends with high tolerances are not used to being around extremely high people. I think the shaking is probably a result of anxiety manifesting itself in a physical way

Either smoke more if you enjoy smoking to bring your tolerance up (I recommend smoking alone, will help you learn the drug to be more comfortable around friends, and will bring your tolerance up so you can do more than stare at walls)
or...
Dont smoke again

Np. It's always great to see a new face on the boards.

The weed I get is probably the best that Iowa can offer... ...so not as great as the other weed in the world. It gets me nice and toasty though.

Whenever I smoke around new people I always get like..maniacly paranoid. So freaked out that I usually just go home because I feel like I'm acting weird. I worry about acting weird to the point of where I actually do start to act weird.

Maybe it's not the weed, maybe it's your mind freaking you out, NotVeryCool. :dunno:

Thanks for all the input, the main reason for this thread was to see if anyone could point out a definite flaw, but since no one has, it's safe to assume that my reaction isn't as bad as I had thought (which is good).

Although my paranoia must play a part in some areas, I don't believe it's a major concern, but the shaking due to paranoia is actually sensible. I don't trust people and it seems like when I'm high, although there are things I should be concerned about, my mind makes things up as well, which I later realize wasn't real.

Again, thanks, and if anyone has any other input, feel free to let me know. I do plan on smoking casually to not only bring up my tolerance but to put an end to my mundane routine which is life. The only downside would be the amount of connections I have (or the lack thereof) alongside my inability to function, so although I'm an adult, my parents must either be asleep or away, both of which they prefer not to be.

this is true... its probably magnified by being stoned. It is a perfectly normal reaction....its just not the one you want by the sound of it...

it might be a trick of the mind... or you might actually be cold and not realize it... unless it gets severe its something i wouldnt worry about...

Blacky made an interesting point about smoking alone...it can help you understand how much you need to smoke to get to the level you want.... and build up a little tolerance so you can enjoy smoking with your buds...
it sounds to me like you are smoking too much with your buddies... try only a good drag or two and see if that gets you giggling and munching...!? it sounds to me like you get too baked and just space out... which is awesome sometimes.

finally... welcome

Thanks for the input, I believe I've always smoked at night so it would make sense that it's cold outside, I was afraid it was kind of like a detox reaction (not the same, but the fact that those who detox tend to shake as well).

Thanks for all the input as well scarf, glad to know it's a normal reaction to being overly stoned. I do agree it is desirable at times, but probably not when hanging out with friends. If I'm alone or comfortable around everyone near me (which I probably never am) then it'd be a great reaction depending on what's going on around me.

The Blacky point makes sense, never thought of it that way. I thought I had to simply (or not so simply) raise my tolerance level, which could take a long time. I just hope I can refrain from smoking too much on my own, I prefer joints (since I've probably smoked one joint vs mostly blunts or pipes) so I wanted to start rolling and smoking, but it might be too much. If anything, I'll just cut the end when done and reuse the weed, that way I'm not smoking too much on my own.

And thanks for the welcome. I'll be around for advice every so often since I don't want to get ripped off, poorly stoned, nor be improperly equipped.

Have you ever smoked a joint outside when it's really cold? I love how when you finish, you don't usually feel very high at all until you go back indoors and the warmth hits your face and you go, "Ooooooooh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhsssshhhhh!"

Bingo.

Or at least, i can say that this has certainly happened to me in the past. It's no reason to get paranoid or scared man, just try to relax more. i've had experiences where i'll feel really tense after a while, then i'll realise my shoulders are hunched up, lol, so i just loosen up and chill out and everything is fine again.

kinda delayed.... but in short.... you're super duper stoned. I got like that once, when I was 1st beginning to smoke, but never felt like that ever since. Also did you have anything to eat/drink before/during the high? This may help....! Also I'd suggest smoking a wee bit less perhaps, start out with really small doses i guess and then build up from there, just give it some time to really kick off, if you think you can go for more, feel free.
Also as for the coldness... I think just as with any emotions you feel, the weed will make you feel it 10x more. I think I'm always cold, but i feel it even more when high sometimes.... just drink some warm tea or snuggle in a blanket or snuggie! lol
