Work School LIfe.

Post by Ricardo »

so weedgurians what jobs do you guys have, had? what was ur reason for leaving? what do you have experience in? are you going to school? whats your degree and what made u decide that degree? whats the economy like in ur part of the world and how does it affect u?

i am currently unemployed living at my parents house. they do pretty well making an average salary of 40k a year each. i cn only hope i am as financially stable in the future as them.

so far i have only really had 1 job as a dishwash at a local country club/golf course making mininum wage, which is 8 dollars an hour here in cali. i did pretty well untill i got fired about a week ago for leaving work early. i didnt think it was such a big deal at the time seeing as i had done it a couple times before with my coworkers. the only difference that time is that the dishwasher i was working with at the time had gotten into a car accident the night before and was complaining that he couldnt do anything. i left him there to do all the work because i felt it was unfair i had to pick up his slack. plus i didnt really like the dude cause he was a loudmouth and was always barking orders even though he didnt have the authority to do so. next day my position was terminated without a warning.

now im looking for a job through an agency and already they have found a position as a janitor starting at 10 an hour. i can also get a job at walmart seeing as they just opened another one on the outskirts of the city i live in (Stockton).

i went to school for a while but i was never able to pick a certain degree or career so i stopped. didnt wanna spend my money on something i didnt really need to learn. i want to go back to school but my problem is that im not really interested in anything in particular. maybe some of your ideas can inspire me.

Stockton is doing pretty bad at the moment a lot of crime i think were #1 in murder at this point. the economy is just as badr. its really hard to see a lot of the friends i went to highschool struggle to provide for themselves and their families.it was considered the most miserable city in america at one point. maybe someday ill move away from this dump.

A college degree will make you more hirable for a job, even in a field unrelated to your degree. I just graduated with a BS in Human Biology from a well renowned state university. Just heard today that my uncle's son in law might be able to get me a job at this software company which would pay like 60-70k a year. Getting a good job is all about who you know. Having a bachelor's degree helps too.

Got my first job 4 years ago working on the butcher/deli counter in a supermarket. Been there since, only part-time, 16hrs a week.
Never really had a career plan meself. The only thing i ever actually wanted to be was one of 'em people who drive them wee street cleaner vehicles around the city centre. 1. They make the city clean :) and 2. They are the only people allowed to drive on the path, straight into people, and everyone has to get out of their way.

Currently i'm at uni doing a BSc in Business Studies, haven't a baldy where it's gonna take me. It's so general, it could lead to management, advertising, finance... all sorts really. The idea for me is to take a placement year of employment, busting my balls in the first two years to try and be put forward for a quality firm, then i'll try an make a kick ass impression, hopefully bagging myself a nice wee job after graduating.

If you're looking to return to education, i don't know what it's like trying to get back to school where you are, given ages and all that, but we have 'techs' where you can go and get a degree in most subjects that allow you to advance to uni if you wish, or you can even try and get yourself a job from there. The degree is equivalent to a-levels here (in the UK), and i know of a few people on my course who are here from that method.

As for the economy... emm well no where is really good at the minute... although that depends on what you are looking for really, a developing, growing economy or a stable one or so on. As for moving out. Why not? I've always thought i'd stay in Belfast my whole life, for many reasons. But within the past year, I've become much more open to the idea of living somewhere completely different. Maybe just a different city or a whole new country altogether, however the idea of moving with a secure job, is the only likely probable reason that i would consider it as of now.

Still undecided on what I want to do... when I was smaller I wanted to be a mechanic but the thought of having tto go back to school every couple years to learn about the new tech like electro cars and whatnot left a bad taste in my mouth... I'm interested in a couple things like working out n cooking cars computers art but as for actually sitting down and choosing what I want to learn I have a huge fucking problem with commitment to these fields.. I'm the type to start a project and lose interest once I hit a wall... its my fatal flaw that I just have never seemed to get around, once something uninterrsts me I quit... Ive also never really liked education as a whole. I'm a teachers worst nightmare.

One question for all u college people have u taken aderol and if so how much has it helped u study? I know thats a bit off topic lol.

Persistence is key. We will all hit walls from time to time, and funny enough they are the only things we can remember. We all remember hitting the wall, but not when we were running free with no barriers....... The key is to side-step the wall and go on a more familiar path without. What i mean is, say you hit a wall in one topic of revision. Take another topic which you are confident in, master it again, and although you find that topic easy, in your head, subconsciously you will have a sense of achievement which will allow you to progress once you return to the wall. You need to distract yourself with something that you can do, rather than keep trying to attempt the wall, as you will only get bogged down in the wrong frame of mind, become annoyed, aggravated and give up.

As for aderall and revision.......... Unless you have a medical condition which halts your concentration then you should not take anything when doing work. Not even caffeine, even a cup of coffee or anything. In fact the only thing you should have is WATER! Water, and i'm talking close to a litre, and maybe a wee quick snack before you start, something energy providing, like a small bit o' chocolate, or a banana, something like that. Eat before, not during, as anything and everything will become a distraction. Procrastination is a killer, water during is fine though, water is always good. I say this because i believe that you may come to rely on such a substance in order to do work, when what you should be aiming for is to be able to learn things under ordinary day sobriety. Don't underestimate the powers of sobriety and clear thinking, it can be a beautiful thing.

Amm, for fear of making all my recent posts too long i'll try an keep this brief... As for not liking education. My biggest problem was always me. Although that's not who i blamed of course. Who i blamed were the people around me. They became distractions, I spent more time pissing about with friends than focusing on work. I learnt this out the hard way after failing all my exams (granted, i was high as a kite that final year as well so that didn't help) and having to repeat a year. When i had to repeat, i no longer had the distractions, and so i flourished. After realising this, I now make the most of it. ALWAYS put yourself first. Set a goal, as you will have no hope of working for something without knowing what it is you're working for. Be it short or long term. My goal is to graduate with a 1st. 2-3 years down the line, but still, it keeps me focused. Realising i've actually said very little, with too much, i'll now move on to cars.... It's not my field, but if you have an interest in it, go for it. I'm only assuming here, but i'd imagine that it's something that working whilst doing is more beneficial. i.e go and get a job or apprenticeship, instead of going back to education. 2 major benefits include learning whilst doing something your interested in, so that you see walls and want to climb them, and that you will be committed, because you sort of way would have to be. And also, you'll be earning whilst doing it, instead of forking out tuition fee's for education. Education is great.... but it isn't everything, if you don't like it, it may not be for you, and that's ok. Take Richard Branson, he's dyslexic and yet he's one of the most well know business men out there. Granted he has a vast amount of charismatic authority, but the point i'm trying to get across is that you can do well wherever you want to, IF you want to. I'll call this post quits now, and just finish by wishing you the best of luck in whatever road you travel down.
