yea, i also roll with the roach.
Most people i know rolls without it, and add it after.

When I was rolling joints and I saw the method of adding the cardboard roach during the rolling process, I thought it looked easy and convenient. I tried it a dozen times and I still couldn't get my joints to roll properly, so I stuck to adding the roach after the spliff was rolled and packed. I've smoked a few joints rolled by other people with no roach and it sucks. The end you're trying to draw smoke out of collapses on itself and you're trying to get a hit from a pinhole.

around here, everyone just rips a bit of the zigzag pack off and that becomes your roach. thats why if you ever come to toronto and ask someone if they have papes, theres never a cover on the pack or a badly mutilated one

I use index cards, I have a shitload of extras since they come in 100 packs and I needed like 10 of them for a class. I always roll with the roach in place...I have seen people put the roach in after but for the life of me I have never been able to figure out how you weirdos do it like that. How the hell do you roll a joint with a gap big enough to fit a roach in unless you put the roach in to begin with? If I try to shove the roach in afterwards it will just come back out without fail.

This has inspired me to smoke a joint right now though since I haven't had one in quite a while.

Crazy! I still can't roll with a roach already put in it's place before the joint is sealed up nicely.

You just leave enough of a gap at the end to put the roach in and presto! Insta-joint!
