That is very nice stuff for a first time grow. But. You would get better bud if you used real grow lights. You should get a 400 watt for the next grow. Your plants have grown with a very skinny stalk an upwards more than outwards. That is because the light is not adequate and they have to stretch themselves out. The stalk should be strong enough to be able to hold itself up without support normally. This tends to cause the plant to concentrate more on growing stem than growing bud. Indoors, I get a stalk about 4 times that thickness and outdoors, they are trees more than plants, the stalk can be easily 2.5 inches in diameter. Other than the top bud, it is normal that all the other buds are small. You should consider topping the plant next time so that each set of branches are less sparsely separated. Just make sure you don't get impatient and harvest to early. How long have they been flowering? When the top bud is ready to be harvested you can clip that off, letting the lower ones continue to grow a bit. Don't forget, the flowering stage may take 2-3 months. There are commercially sold products to aid in the flowering stage.

Don't get me wrong, its still not half bad at all for a first grow, ha I've seen much much much worse. in fact, I've seen plants not growing at all.

I recommend a nutrient called Monsta Bud. It's about 6.75 per bottle and it can boost bud growth in the last few weeks upto 50%

yes, i would like to get better grow lights for next time, i keep looking on ebay for a nice cheap one (typical stoner always want cheapest!)
at what point should i top the plant (i take it this means pinching the top few inches of stalk off??)

i vegged these plants from feb 1st till 6th may so roughly 3 months. i didnt want them to grow too tall as at the time i had no where to put them, until i found this closet to use

If I was you I would not by a light off of Ebay. You will very likely get a bad one. Not too many folks know this, but a grow light runs out before it actually burns out. It's like the lamps in a tanning bed..they have to be changed every so often way before they are gonna burn out. They have a life span calculated in hours. I've seen get a type that has a 3000 hour life span. Seen some that go up to 10,000. The effectiveness of the light output diminishes after the set period.

It's too late now to top the plant because it is already in the blooming stage. You want to be doing this in the vegetative state only. Topping will help reduce the plant height, you mentioned this being an issue.
Topping a plant means cutting off the top shoots. You can pinch (what I do), or cut off the tallest shoots or the freshest shoots. Cut the branch stem just below the last fully developped node. The plant will start developing branches at the remaining nodes. You may notice that the two central growth tips may stop growing for a period, this is normal as the plant directs its energy to repairing the damaged area.

Here, better yet than my explanation is something more thorough along with some pics. Topping is the bottom part. Pay close attention to the pruning section, that too is something you should do. I don't do the super cropping thing.

i get what ur saying, but that doesnt mean that if i get one from ebay it will be bad, i mean iv seen some good setups on there, the ballasts are still good, and most come with like a phillips son t bulb. or similar. i heard they are good quality?????????

yeh i meant brand new dude, but even a second hand one, those phillips bulbs are only like £9 new on ebay anyway...... ( or at least they say they are new u never know i guess. )
ideally i want 600w, but more than likely settle for 400w.
on my next grow i only wanna do one-two plants at a time. il of moved house, and dont want it to take over my whole house with smell and space.......

You need some stronger lights man, they look like they are stretching a little bit too much, but hey if their growing and your happy with them leave them be. Those lights tend to run on the pricey side anyway.

FINALLY I HARVESTED THESE PLANTS, I BOOKED A WEEK OFF WORK SPECIAL, AND FUCKING JESUS CHRIST WAS IT WORTH IT!
lol, iv spent all week, testing out the green from my plants, and im very happy with it.i only got about an ounce and a half off 3 plants (my three smallest ) but it was enough to keep me h appy., my biggest plant is still to harvest as it wasnt quite ready, and i think i should get at least another half ounce of that, maybe more infact.
the quality, is i would say is average to good. considering the weed i get from sheffield is always of the highest quality ( at the minute my dealer is selling white widow, which as we all know is fo the highest quality, this is my basis for comparison.)
it gets u stoned, and it cost me next to nothing. i cannot tell u how good it feels to light up a spliff, knowing u put hard work and effort into it, and now im reaping the rewards.
overall, a very succesful first grow. i learnt alot from it, and my next grow will be twice as good.
i still cant believe i got 4 females aswell, what a lucky bastard.
i will post a few pics of my harvested baggies later with all my weed in, when i get round to it, but a big thank you to everyone who has posted in this thread with words of advice and encouragment.
but it just shows u, that u CAN grow weed plants for next to nothing, and still get results, so to anyone out there who thinks they cant grow because they havent spent alot of money on lights and hydroponics, dont be put off, it can be done for less than £50 !!!

i just started my first grow with basically the same setup as him, except the plants are in a crate wit foil around, wit 200 watts of light on it. i gotta thank weedguru higher for helpin' me out on my questions. but...

how long does it take for it to sprout on AVERAGE?
i'm gettin 5-10 days for most people that i ask. and how often did you water?

ah shit, it seems like ages ago when i did that grow now, i smoked all that so long ago now......
but anyway, on with pastures new, and i decided after my first grow to invest in some better stuff, after all iv started making a little extra money.....
so heres my plan starting from next week onwards. i typed it up in notepad while i was thinking about it, so thought i might aswell post what i put. il keep a log of this grow too of course. im proud to say iv probably done the first grow log that actually got completed, and taken through step by step?? proud of myself for that.
ack, babbling the plan:-
week 1. board the floor
2. sort out wall boarding
3. sort out electricity supply
4. build floor layout for planting area, insulate and reflect walls and roof.
5. fit lights for propogation area and vegative/flowering area.
6. fit lines for harvest area
7. sort out water barrel/fill up for water supply.
8. sort out carbon filter/air freshner.
9. buy soil/pots to begin grow.
10. buy nutrients needed for grow.
11. find some seeds, in meantime use ones iv got
12. plant seeds, begin vegetive growth
------------
18. switch to flowering
------------
24. harvest the, bud hang to dry
------------
25. bag and weigh the harvest, take pics and stats for log
