Roaches?

I'm new to the world of weed, and i'm still pretty confused about the whole roach deal. What exactly is a roach? What is it made out of? How do you make it? What are its benefits?

I ask these questions because usually somebody else does the rolling, but now I want to learn. Also though, I'm pretty sure I don't remember people making roaches when rolling. We just had papers and the weed. Is a roach even necessary?

first off, your in the US.. the roach is just the end bit of a joint that burns your lips or fingers to smoke,
in the uk its a roll of card to keep the end of the joint sturdy, doesnt really make too much difference, but it does stop the joint sticking at the end i find.

basically what nowhere said. the roll of card is so you can smoke everything in the skin without burning your fingers. if you don't use one you will have the end of your joints left. this can be put in a bong or pipe and smoked

Plain, unprinted business card is probably your best choice because some printing inks can emit poisonous fumes when burnt, definitely no a good thing. An excellent roach (filter) can be made from a 1 to 2cm by 5cm or so strip of thin card. Tightly roll the card at a slight angel so that the end of the roach is conical. You can roll your joint with the roach (filter) already inside (conical end facing outward) and let the card spring out a little to allow the smoke to flow.

a roach is used to keep the spliff sturdy and i think it stops alot of feedback from the spliff (some of the weed going into ur mouth as u toke)

its made of some sort of card, i usually use bus pass cards , just roll them up kinda tight, just so u can toke easily through it, but so that nothing can come through and its all good
