Plant Question..

Post by vegetarian barbarian »

Hi! I'm new to this board as well as to the art that is growing marijuana. This forum seemed like a really informed group of people and thought id join. I just have a quick question about my first grow.

Im about to harvest a Super Lemon Haze plant (Sativa) and was wondering, judging by these pictures, if its too early to harvest it within the next couple days. I read somewhere that for Indicas you can judge harvest time based on the red hairs and how many there are, but since this is Sativa, i wasnt too sure. I have another SLH and an AK48 growing that i know need about 2 more weeks, so even if the one in the pictures is a little early to pick within the next couple days (for quantity reasons, if its for THC purity reasons, ill leave it) im ok with that. I might seem a little impatient but i dont mean too, just wanted to know if this plant is safe to harvest. Im going to dry these ladies for about 5 to 7 days afterwards. Is that enough time? just wanted some advice! Thanks.

The third picture is a bud thats down farther on the plant and inside, it is not a top bud, its what most of the buds on the inside and down towards the bottom look like.

Hey there VB, welcome to Weedguru!

That's a great looking plant you have there!

The red hair thing also applies to Sativas, not just Indicas

To me that looks about ready but if you want to be really sure you need to check the trichomes.

Have a look at this guide, it should help you

http://www.weedguru.com/forum/viewtopic ... 88&t=26638

Here's another guide about drying your bud

Hope to see you back with some harvest pics!

Hey, thanks for the compliments! It means a lot being my first plant here. As for the drying, i was going to do it in a basement (concrete) with a dehumidifier, i wasnt planning on running the dehumidifier but as i read, if its too moist i will, but the dehumidifier runs down there all the time so the basements pretty much dry.

Those guides are really useful, i've looked at them with a magnifying glass, i think im the mix and match to the uppity high (which is what i prefer anyways, though couchlock is just as fun). I will definitely have some post harvest pics for sure!

Here are some pics of the other two still growing..., i think i need about another week or 2 on em?

The first two are the ak48 far away and close and the second two are the other SLH which is about 5 inches taller than my other one (bigger bucket, more nutes etc.), which is fine by me. It was too tall for me to get it all in one shot, the last one is the top of it though its a little blurry and bright, but ill have a better one up Saturday at least, along with hanging ladies from the other one.

Those are beautiful! Don't get to see sativas too often...most people around these parts grow mostly indica genetics

Looks pretty damn good for a first grow I must say!

You are correct, those are not at all ready and I think 2 more weeks is a fair guess.

Do you mind me asking what part of the world you are from to be growing sativas outdoors? How long have they been in flower?

Haha, thanks again, i really didn't know how well they would take to be honest. But i am at 43 degrees Latitude in NY. For the last week or 2 and as far as i can tell ahead of time, its been about high 50s to low 60s days and high 40s to mid 50s nightly. My Sativa plant is just loving this weather, its doing really well. And with strong winds (over the past month of September) it definitely helps the plants adapt to this weather and also fight off mold, at least that's the assumption im making.

They have been in flower since august and i planted them in the beginning of June (the one im harvesting soon was planted at the end of May). The one i was going to pick is about a week to 9 days ahead of the other two.

Wow, I'm surprised the Super Lemon Haze is ready...I looked it up online and it says 9-10 weeks flowering and finishes end October in northern hemisphere...

When in August did it start flowering? Early? mid?

But i do have one question... i was looking at the forecast and theres a chance of 1 night having frost, but then temps go back up to Mid 60s the day after, if it were to frost for one night, what would be the best thing to do?

Update, these photos are from earlier today. The first couple are of the one i am going to harvest tomorrow, the others are the other plants which aren't too far out!

One question... the first picture i am posting is towards the bottom of the plant, are these still growing? They have looked like this for a while.

Image

Other pics of the plant that i believe is ready for harvest tomorrow, true?

Alright! I harvested the one little girl. She gave me roughly 12 to 14 ounces which isnt bad for this one considering it is smaller than her other sister that is at least 2 to 4 inches taller (You can imagine what that will produce!). Unfortunately i only got a couple pictures of my harvest because my cameras battery died, but here they are. And this bud smells like lemon heads and lemonade, its magnificent, cannot wait to try it out later this week.

The main bud...its a lot more red than this pic, my flash makes it look white, trust me, its red as hell

This isnt all of it, but i wasnt going to put the rest on top of it, but my camera died after this picture :(

Nice harvest!

Your final dry weight should be about 1/3 or 1/4 of your fresh weight....depends on the water content in the buds

I see you've got buds in the curing jar. I hope it's just for the pic and you haven't really put the buds in there yet. The cure jar is the last step in the process..you gotta air dry them first. But I think you know that..If they are in the jar, get them out of there quick before they mold!
