Music

Post by crackrjak »

Well, since the forum is so dead, im going to post this thread in here so it gets some traffic at least.

I'd like to know how you guys comes across your music? I'm into artists like Rusko and Gui Boratto and Flux Pavilion.

I'm finding it hard to find the music i'm into, I've used pandora to try and find artists that i like, and it ends up going off into genre's i don't care for and it turns into a horrible mess.

Pandora and Youtube mostly.

Although Pandora is starting to get on my nerves. It plays the same songs over and over again.

You should check out 8tracks.com or whatever. I think it was Spri7e who posted a thread about. It has it where you can mix and match different genres to find the type of music you want to listen to. I've found a bunch of amazing trance/progressive mixes on there....what pisses me off though, is after I find amazing tunes it's almost impossible to find them anywhere else, like youtube for instance.

when you say progressive mixes, do they do progressive music. That Edison's Children band is real floyd like and i've been trying to find them on Pandora but they never come up (and though it's the most non-progressive song they do, that song Outerspaced by them has by far the best weed lyrics i've ever heard).

"we've got happy trees...
the kindest of herbs...
send you back to outerspace without leaving earth...

oh come on can't we all just get along?
take me to the sky, how high can we fly, let's ride"

also into transatlantic. don't know if that internet radio plays that kinda progressive stuff

When I hear "progressive" I think of Dream Theater, Rush, Queensryche, Symphony X......(prog metal) BUT, I have been listening to 'A State of Trance' podcasts and other gay, Armin Van Buuren-ish type shit. And I'll be damned if I don't like a lot of it... Send me some of your favs, Andria.

allmusic.com > the rest combined

they castrated it for the heavy heavy users with the elimination of the advanced search, but it is still the largest most comprehensive databse of music information on the web.

I also supplement with Pierro Scaruffi and cross review through Robert Christgau....Google em...

http://www.8tracks.com

That's all you will ever need for new music and is filled with people's best mixes.

Want music for dubstep? check, want it for FUCKING to dubstep? even bigger check, want it for running naked through a corn field? CZECK!

Also, there is an 8tracks app for your smartphone if you have it that you can link up to your account with and enjoy all the music on the go. It's great for random music, not specific songs that you want to listen to. That's what youtube is meant for

Youtube, type in a random artist you like and check the videos youtube suggest as similar ones, been finding a lot of unknown artists that way.

furthermore soundcloud is good for finding upcoming people, last.fm as well .
Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

youtube is great for finding random related artists if you look in the suggestion drag down box, and like Flow said I've found many great artists and rare songs by the artists by doing so. What I do is either save the playlists from 8tracks to my liked playlists and go back to it, or I write down the songs that I like (which those people have gooood taste in music) and either download them, or just go to youtube and listen to it again if I want since you can't go back songs or rewind on 8tracks. It has something to do with their music licensing that they have to keep it legal.
:smileydance:
Pandora is probably the worst site for music compared to the other websites previously listed, especially the app for it. (at least when I used it for a while)

edit: I just used allmusic.com and that site kind of sucks...sorry joker, but that site doesn't do the justice it has the potential for. From what I've seen, all I get is information about songs, MAYBE some related artists, and previews of songs for only SOME artists. I'd rather use youtube than that by far.
