the republican candidacy...

Post by weedguru_animal »

Well...whilst its clear to most of the world, that the US are far removed from a World Leader...its certainly important to the rest of us non yankees, as much as the amercians themselves, who wins the republican presidential nomination.

I have as solid an idea of US politics as anyone who has never lived there can have...stretching back several decades. I also have a painfully intimate knowledge of english politics...

I should be desensitized, but I am constantly amazed, bewildered, by the glaring displays of incompetence shown by the front runners in the quest for the Republican nomination. Mitt Romney has said things which would count him out of any reckoning in England. he has made retarded mistakes, seems like a wealthy, nasty cunt, who cannot even control his own tongue...yet he remains the front runner!!!! Which truly bewilders me...for the americans I know on this very site, are far from dumb, yet only the truly dumb could endorse such an obvious moron...

I will make this clear...I do NOT, at all, see the english equivalents as better people, in regards to heart and spirit, which means more to me than anything else. yet...its not just an opinion, but so close to a fact i can kiss it, that the apparent very best which the US republican party has to offer, would NEVER even get to embark upon the campaign trail in england, for the english public dont like the idea of nasty spastics running their country...and in turn, their lives...and unless you are very smart, very controlled, a wizard with rhetoric, you have zero chance in England, but in the US???? It seems, election after election, that candidates can prove themselves, basically retarded, irrational, mentally enfeebled, yet STILL be in pole position.

The only candidate I know of, who has any semblance of intelligence, is Ron Paul...yet the best he can hope for, it seems, is to fuck up the nomination process, and force a mad scramble for a coalition, to lead the Republican charge to regain the White House...

Even Jeb Bush seems more able to speak coherently, and intelligently, than the present front runners...and yet he is of one of a bloodline which has caused the needless deaths of likely hundreds of thousand people around the world, and presided over the complete disintegration of the US economy...and its people.

So...what do you people say???? What are your thoughts???? We have so many americans here, and due to the general trend of imperialist warmongering and illegal invasions the US has been pursuing for the last...few decades, that wont change...whatever happens, but WHO, i am interested in learning, do YOU WANT as your President??? and WHY???

I don't really know much about politics except when an issue overlaps with an area of my study. These issues would probably lead me to vote for Obama based on a more even social playing field and attention paid to environmental/alternative energy issues. I am not extremely economically educated but based on discussions I've had with other people that side of the coin would cause me to lean toward Ron Paul. Despite how extreme he is, I don't think his most extreme ideas would be allowed to go through. He's got a bit of an outside the box perspective that I like, but it might just be kooky. Any Republican might be good for the economy, but it might be taking steps backwards on environmental and energy issues which are more important to me. On a foreign policy level I agree most definitely with Ron Paul and on many states rights issues I agree with him as well.

So I am mostly in favor of Paul, but environmental/energy issues are extremely important to me and I think for the future, and that biases me more towards Obama. I am yet undecided, although I do not think Paul is electable even if I was 100% sure I would vote for him.

Does it truly even matter who gets elected as president? Its the senate that makes the actual choices in the long run.

No no NO. Ron Paul will not be a good president. Ron Paul could very well be the worst fucking President this nation has ever seen. Vote for Ron Paul if you want this country to disintegrate into a privatized shithole complete with all the wealth disparities, corporate free reign on society and the environment, and social alienation anyone in the top 1% could ever dream. He is the devil in disguise.

Honestly Ikku you should make some space in your course plan to take Micro and Macro economics. I can talk to a bunch of people on their opinions on certain matters and regardless of how cocky and confident they sound it doesn't make it valid or correct. Republicans are complete and utter shit for the economy just as much as they are utter shit for the environment and the well being of society as a whole. Mitt "Feels good to fire people" Romney lost more people their jobs then he made for them, contrary to whatever bullshit he has claimed. Did you not read my previous post with regards to Ron Paul? Supply side economics does not fucking work! There is a good reason why some perspectives are outside of the mainstream and the fact that something as bizarre, ignorant, and regressive as the Tea Party isn't outside the realm of the mainstream is a really fucking scary thing. The nation grows as the pockets of the consumer grows, not the pockets of the rich.

There are plenty of things Ron Paul said with regards to economics that make me not want to vote for him. An interviewer told Ron Paul that Warren Buffett was demanding to be taxed more, and Ron Paul said "well if he wants to pay more taxes then let him pay, we could use the money" but completely sidestepped the whole point Buffett was trying to make which was that the rich need to be TAXED, very few of them are going to give it up willingly. On the other hand, raising taxes for the rich just leads to loophole finding and overseas investment and all kinds of stuff to avoid paying taxes on as much of their money as possible, so it's really hard to nail down those rich bastards when they have so many resources at their disposal to protect all those resources at their disposal.

The reason I like Paul other than states rights issues and his foreign policy is that he seems pretty radical about the financial system, he basically wants to dismantle the one in place. I'm personally of the opinion that our economy and ways of doing business are extremely archaic and need to be done away with completely and we need to start from something new. It's pretty much impossible to make the needed changes within the current system, and requires too much work and is too iffy for anyone to actually ever allow it to happen though, so it's kind of a pipe dream. And I don't know that Paul's ideas are any better than what we have now, but the world is run by completely jerkholes right now so I'm willing to give someone else a chance to fuck shit up.

Mankind has already experienced Ron Paul's policies, it's called anarchy, and if that worked we'd still be doing it. His policies wouldn't be a new step forward, they would be a huge step back. If you think this current form of capitalism is archaic I have no clue why you would think Ron Paul can usher in some new era. Please tell me, what is it that you specifically support when it comes to his polices on an economic level?

Ah, if you want to hear my super idealistic liberal scientific thought pattern, listen up, but you probably won't agree with it. I think the whole system should be torn down and a socialist/communist system put in its place. Now before you get all up in arms about "oh that sounds great on paper but has never worked lols look at history" I just want to say, that was then this is now. Technology is telescoping in its advances, each major step forward coming sooner than the one before. We are almost for all intents and purposes, in a post-scarcity world. We have enough food to feed the entire world. We have enough vaccines and medicine to eradicate polio and smallpox from the planet. The only reasons these things are even problems are economic and political.

There's the argument against communism that "oh if there's no incentive to work, people won't work." Some people won't work. The lazy people. But they won't need to. The lowest skilled jobs are pretty much automated already, the only reason some of them even exist is to give people jobs. So many things are being replaced by computers and robotics (just look at the modern day factory, sweatshops notwithstanding). Even some jobs that would have been high paying years ago are automated. I was in a microbiology lab today and one of the things that makes them have such a high turnover of test results on PCR for instance is because all they really have to do is make sure the parameters are set correctly and run the test. A 96-well PCR reaction will be performed automatically (the temperature cycling of this used to be done manually) and the data fully analyzed and report printed for whoever requested the test. Hours and hours of skilled labor no longer necessary. And that's just an example from my field in particular, similar things are happening in every single industry.

I think it's going to get to the point where a human's main function as a worker would be in generating ideas, creative thinking, and management of information. Probably not within our lifetimes but there's no telling how the future will go. I think when our technology has reached this point (I would actually argue that it is almost there, maybe about 80%), our current capitalist economy would only hold us back. I think humanity has to evolve away from competition and toward cooperation.

Now this has little to do with Ron Paul and in fact some of his economic policies don't really line up with mine at all, but I'm a nutjob and my opinions don't line up with any politician. So I look for little things I think will help. The things I do like about Ron Paul: wants to allow people under 25 to opt out of Social Security (which is a giant pyramid scheme), voted against all bailouts, drastic change in monetary policy along with reduced government spending. Basically anti-Keynesian by attributing inflation to money supply fluctuations (which is the reality) rather than aggregate demand and approaching the economy from that perspective. And that last point is the biggest. "Oh hey let's fix the economy by throwing money at it." The economy IS money, or rather the economy and money are both illusions propping each other up in a sense.

I think the main thing to gather from this is that no candidate will really be ideal for me when it comes to economic questions because I am too idealistic. Also a reminder that I have not said I'm voting for Paul, but I haven't written him off. I love love love his foreign policy and domestic social policy. His economic ideas are at least something different. He wants to get rid of the department of Energy which is actually a huge strike against him in my book. Getting rid of Education isn't something I'd like him to do either but it's not as huge for me (I think our education system sucks and needs to be retooled, scrapping the entire federal department is a bit overboard).

Still weighing my options.

I'd vote for Obama just for the fact that all of the other candidates sound like complete morons, where he seems fairly level-headed. though i don't put enough research into politics to actually vote

So basically, you would/will vote for the continuation of what Bush and his NeoCon owners decided long ago, which Obama has continued, with zeal???

And Ikku...its Ron's foreign policy, that I have a basic idea of...and I like it. But that alone will mean he has zero chance of getting into power, for the wHITE hOUSE owners, won't put someone into the presidency, even as a spokesman, which is all the US president IS and HAS BEEN for many moons, who is against everything they are for. But cheers, for explaining more...I am learning.

Invading yet another sovereign nation (libya), killing thousands there, all in the name of 'humanitarian intervention', placing in control of the the same country the same crowd of muslim extremists who apparently blew up the twin towers (al qaeda)...organizing/supporting/endorsing the propaganda campaign against Iran and Syria, both of which are countries which will be invaded, as was decided by Obama's owners long ago...The endorsement of the propaganda is blatant lies to the american people...the continued political and military support of Israeli aggression and land theft in the middle east, most importantly acting as a BLOCKADE against any other nation's attempts to stop israel stealing land and continuing what is close to genocide in the gaza strip/west bank...supporting the brutal crushing of Arab Spring movements in the backyards of their allies in the middle east, then with the other side of his face condemning the 'regimes' who are not US clients, who are crushing the Arab Spring movements. Spending ever more on weapons, when so many people in his own country are getting poorer and poorer...

evil reputation unfair??? He seems like an obvious cunt to me, no different whatsoever to Bush and everyone since Reagan really...Just a more slick dresser, classier liar and black. Is that all it takes to make people see a Good man when he has presided over all the above????

Animal those are indeed some of my biggest points of contention with the Obama administration, it does indeed seem to be the same shadow government calling the shots on the world stage. While in 2008 I felt certain that Obama was the answer, he proved to be deceitful in many many ways and so now I am just left confused and my faith in the system all but completely destroyed.

A Republican candidate (other than Ron Paul) would be even more gung ho and blatant about warmongering, and would also do a lot of damage within our country. The rich will get richer, the poor poorer, oil dependence worse, social oppression especially for women and minorities, huge step backwards with regards to energy and science. A lot of that will happen with Ron Paul as well, but at least he promises to end the current United States foreign policy.

ON THE OTHER HAND, Obama made that same fucking promise in 2008 and look where we are now. Looking at it that way, I do start to lean more towards Obama because I feel like he's pretty solid except on foreign policy. Ron Paul has some things I like, but I'm not sure I can vote strictly based on foreign policy since it is just way too possible that he would end up in the pockets of the same people and do an about face on his foreign policy promises.
