kyuss - welcome to sky valley

these guys literally invented stoner rock. heres a review someone made.

Welcome to Sky Valley > Customer Review #3:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"listen without distraction"

Those are the instructions given in the liner notes of this album. I suggest you follow them.
Kyuss were one of those bands that helped invent a genre but their sound is so unique that it ultimately has nothing to do with anyone else. Much like Sabbath invented heavy metal, but were not heavy metal, Kyuss invented stoner rock and were definately not stoner rock.
Not to say you cant get stoned to this record. I have, almost on a daily basis. Welcome to Sky Valley is an altered state in itself. The bass heavy grooves pummel your body while the melody and soloing will lift your mind to places its never been. There was something mystical about this short lived and criminally underrated band and its awesome that kids are now starting to realize it. This album is more of an experience than a collection of songs. Its the musical equivalent of staring straight into the sun and never, ever blinking.
If you decide to buy this record, I recommend listening to it properly. Find some place very hot, and very dusty and smoke till you begin to see patterns in the sand. And then, and only then, put this on at a dangerous volume. Lay back, relax, prepare for the trip.
